ACLU Peoria Chapter Celebrates 64th Annual Dinner at the IVY Club
June 26, 2025 – Peoria Heights, IL — The ACLU Peoria Chapter gathered at the Illinois Valley Yacht & Canoe Club for its 64th Annual Dinner, welcoming members, advocates, and community leaders for an evening of reflection, recognition, and recommitment to civil liberties.
This year’s theme, “Unyielding: Defending Freedom, Advancing Justice,” captured the spirit of the event—honoring the legacy of those who’ve come before while mobilizing for the work that lies ahead.
A Moment of Tribute:
The evening began with a heartfelt moment of silence and gratitude to honor past officers, members, and advocates of the ACLU Peoria Chapter. Their enduring impact and dedication continue to guide the chapter’s mission and momentum.
2025 Honorees:
Sam Belfer Award: Central Illinois Friends – Celebrated for their unwavering support of the LGBTQ+ community and efforts in promoting health equity and compassionate care across the Peoria region.
David Citron Award: Adam Kattom – Honored for his steadfast commitment to civil liberties through policy advocacy and community organizing.
Outstanding Achievement Award: Jessica Thomas – Recognized for her transformative leadership in revitalizing the chapter board and energizing committee work throughout the past year.
Keynote Speaker:
The program featured an inspiring keynote address from Dr. Litesa E. Wallace, founder of LITE Strategies and former Illinois State Representative. Dr. Wallace shared insights from her years of legislative leadership—highlighting her work on mental health care, equity for foster youth, energy access in underserved communities, and economic justice.
Chapter Business and Bylaw Updates:
Members also participated in a pivotal chapter vote, successfully passing updated bylaws that set the course for a more dynamic and collaborative future.
